Neuropsychology Services

At the Eastside Neuroscience Institute, top experts provide diagnosis and treatment of problems related to thinking (cognition) and psychological difficulties (anxiety, depression).

Many conditions can affect behavior, and cognition. Neuropsychological assessment and testing check your ability to think and operate, and can provide insight into the effects of brain injury. Conditions that affect the brain often impact attention, memory, judgement and behavior.

In turn, these can create changes in personality and your ability to manage emotions. Very often, the problems are not distinctly neurological or psychological; the difficulties can meld into changes that are difficult to understand and treat.

Neuropsychological Assessment

If you are undergoing a neuropsychological assessment, the mental functions tested may include:

  • Learning and Memory
  • Intellect
  • Reading and comprehension
  • Language usage and interpretation
  • Concentration and attention
  • Incisiveness
  • Reasoning skills
  • Executive functions (skills you use to organize and plan, manage time, problem solve, and maintain control)
  • Mood and Personality
  • Motor speed and dexterity
  • Visuospatial skills (navigating distance and space)

Expert Diagnosis

Diagnosis is an important first step in developing your care plan. Our neuropsychology experts provide help in understanding the cause of problems related to your thinking and understanding.  We use scientifically proven tests to determine if changes are due to normal aging, neurological illness, depression, anxiety or other causes.

In some cases, a medical procedure may be planned, and a baseline of your cognitive function is required, prior to the procedure. After the medical procedure is complete, a re-examination can be performed and provide insight into how well you are recovering, and if you can return to work, school, drive or resume normal every day activities.

If a known neurological event has occurred, such as a stroke or a traumatic brain injury, neuropsychological testing will provide information on the degree of change in your brain function.

Common reasons for Neuropsychological Tests
